History of
Glenwood Sunday Market
Glenwood Sunday Market (GSM) was founded by the grassroots efforts and countless hours of work on the parts of many Rogers Park community members. Rogers Park is one of the most economically and ethnically diverse communities in the United States and is located on the City of Chicago’s far northeast side.
Glenwood Sunday Market opened for business on Sunday, June 6, 2010 thanks to the generous support of the Clark/Morse/Glenwood Special Service Area #24. An overwhelmingly enthusiastic crowd made the opening day successful to the point where farmers and food artisans sold out within the first hour of operations. GSM continues to surpass expectations today. Voted Illinois’ Favorite Farmers Market in 2010, Glenwood Sunday Market was also voted Third Favorite Farmers Market of its size the U.S. in the American Farmland Trust 2010 contest, was named Best Pet Friendly Market by The Reader in 2011 and won The Golden Beet Award for outstanding Food Access Programming in 2013.

Glenwood Sunday Market truly represents the diversity and interests of the community and is a real example of us putting our money where our mouths are, so to speak.
The market makes such a point of local artisans and farmers using responsible, sustainable practices and it gets the absolute, enthusiastic and consistent support of the neighborhood and beyond.
As a vendor at the market, I love that (it is) approachable and affordable for folks to visit farmers markets, and spreading visibility.
My family has discovered the benefits of buying local food and the Glenwood Sunday Market is a great place to get it. The food is fresher than anything in the supermarket so it is tastier and more nutritious.
The Glenwood Sunday Market is good for our local economy and better for the environment because it's not being shipped from the other side of the world.
The market brings together our community and makes us feel like true neighbors. It's fun to run into people you know and catch up on all that going on. It's a win-win-win!

Glenwood Sunday Market is the result of the grassroots efforts of Rogers Park community members. Over a two-year planning period, many Rogers Park-ers were involved in developing what has become today’s Glenwood Sunday Market. Key figures in the earliest phase were Rene Camargo and Bob Fields who had the initial inspiration to start a new farmers market in Rogers Park, Barbara Moore who served as the Chair of the Founding Board of Directors and Sheree Moratto who served as the Founding Market Manager.
